The Parent Organization of Team Roc

Roc Nation is a globally recognized entertainment company representing some of the most renowned names in music and sports. Lauded for its innovation and forward-thinking leadership, Roc Nation continues to elevate its services and offerings in talent management, strategic brand development, music production and distribution, and more. As an industry trailblazer, Roc Nation has set high standards for leading social change, giving back to communities, and uplifting those in need through its work with its philanthropic division, Team Roc.

Founded in 2008 by Desiree Perez, Juan Perez, Jay Brown, Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith, and JAY-Z, Roc Nation has maintained a dedication to addressing pressing challenges in communities worldwide, and its philanthropic contributions through Team Roc have given rise to several social justice movements. Joining forces with the Midwest Innocence Project, Team Roc helped push forward a lawsuit against the Kansas City Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) for abuse and corruption, calling on the Department of Justice to open a Pattern-or-Practice Investigation into the KCKPD.  Additionally, Roc Nation’s “Exposing Parchman” television documentary and the Parchman Prison rally, attended by Team Roc and other prison reform advocates, served as extensions of their ongoing amplification work to bring attention to the human rights violations within the Mississippi corrections facility. These tandem efforts from Roc Nation and Team Roc garnered attention from the Department of Justice, in turn, helping to ensure remedial measures be taken to vastly improve conditions at Parchman Prison and other confinement facilities in the state.

Beyond this, Roc Nation and Team Roc have expanded their efforts by partnering with other organizations focused on social change. Together, Roc Nation and Team Roc brought about the formation of the United Justice Coalition (UJC), a social justice initiative aimed at advancing systemic change in criminal justice and civil rights. Through high-profile summits and collaborative campaigns, UJC works with activists, legal experts, and organizations to increase education, advocacy, and action nationwide. Alongside Roc Nation, REFORM Alliance works with Team Roc to hold job fairs that offer employment opportunities for people of all skill levels, including those impacted by the criminal justice system, helping to create socioeconomic mobility.

Outside of its collaboration with Team Roc, Roc Nation has made education and career development a core part of its social impact work. Roc Nation partnered with Brooklyn’s Long Island University to create the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment to develop academic opportunities for students and establish career pathways with Roc Nation’s mentorship and internship network.

Roc Nation fosters a shared commitment to supporting underserved communities by providing full-service support, from incubation to growth, for the philanthropic work of its clients. Such initiatives include Megan Thee Stallion’s Pete and Thomas Foundation, which provides resources to programs focused on health & wellness, housing, education, and community goodwill in Houston, TX; the Jazz Chisholm Foundation, founded by MLB All-Star Jazz Chisholm to give resources to ensure the wellbeing of young athletes in Florida and the Bahamas; Robinson Canó’s RC24 Foundation, which focuses on improving education, community healthcare, and youth development; and the Clara Lionel Foundation, founded by Rihanna, which supports global programs in climate resilience, health, and education across the Caribbean, East Africa, and the Southern United States.
